A lot of his personality takes after her and his aspiration to become an actor was influenced by her as well. Sammie had a very close relationship with his mother, Lillie! things have cooled down on Samuel’s side, honestly… like there’s a reluctant part of him that wants to patch things up with Sammie but their chances of reconciliation are pretty slim at the moment given his kid’s still majorly bitter towards him. Samuel’s currently off traveling around the country for his job (he’s a journalist) but the big fight between him and Sammie is one of the main reasons he only comes to town to visit on very rare occasions. ultimately, when Sammie reaches his teenage years, their growing animosity towards one another leads to the two having a nasty fallout which Sammie hasn’t really gotten over since. Samuel was always trying to discourage him from acting because Sammie’s chances of MAKING IT BIG! like he dreams of were very slim so Samuel just didn’t see it as a realistic aspiration which led to arguments between the two often (Samuel’s gone through a lot of crap in his life so he has this very pessimistic outlook on the world i should note lol). like, for example, the two fought a lot over Sammie wanting to be an actor. Since Lillie (his mom) died when he was only four, Samuel pretty much raised him on his own and while he wasn’t a HORRIBLE! neglectful father or anything (albeit he was young and inexperienced, just as Lillie was) over time the two started clashing with each other personality and aspirations-wise. a complicated relationship atm lol… to be frank, Sammie kinda hates his dad.
